Welcome to the Tooele Bit & Spur Riding Club website.
We hope you will find helpful information about our club activities and how to join!  We’d like to invite you to contact us with any questions you may have or information you would like to share on this website, particularly Historical facts.

About the Club
The Bit & Spur Riding Club was formed in 1945 and is one of the oldest riding clubs in the State of Utah. The Club has survived many generations of change and continues to thrive because of its members’ dedication to the Club’s mission; to provide a variety of equestrian related activities for families and individuals of all ages and skill levels. The club continues to grow and has over 100 members, many are four generation equine enthusiasts. Typical activities include family oriented trail rides, horse shows, team penning, riding in parades,
and producing Tooele County’s largest and the State of Utah’s oldest continuously running Rodeo! The Bit & Spur is a strong supporter of other Tooele County Rodeo’s to include the Tooele County High School Rodeo Association, the Little Buckaroo Rodeo series, and the Rush Valley/Clover Rodeo.  Our club also provides donations to several local and national charity organizations.
The Bit & Spur Riding Club is associated with the Utah State Western Riding Clubs of America (USWRCA) as a District 1 member.  District 1 includes clubs from Grantsville, Magna, Lehi, and South Jordan. Youth and adult members participate in USWRCA sponsored horse shows. More information can be found at www.uswrca.com including rules and descriptions of show schedules and events.

Rodeo

2012 will be the 67th consecutive year the Bit & Spur Club has produced the 4th of July Rodeo, the highlight of Tooele County's Independence Day Celebrations. For the past 11 years, the rodeo has been held at the beautiful Deseret Peak Complex and will be there again on July 3rd and 4th. The 4th of July Rodeo started out as a fund raiser for the club and continues to fund our Junior Riding Club Program and other activities, including civic and charitable projects. If you would like to advertise or become a sponsor at this year's rodeo, contact our Rodeo Chairman, Jim Harrell at 435-882-2463. Visit our Rodeo and Sponsor page!

Youth & Adult Activities
The Bit & Spur Riding Club provides activities for all ages and levels of experience who share a love of horses and riding. Our Junior Club members compete in Club, Jackpot, and District 1 horse shows; participating in events such as barrel racing, pole bending, the egg marathon, western pleasure, and much more. The adults can participate in Club, District, Region and State shows. The “High Point” adult receives the annual "Woody Fillmore Award" through a generous donation from one of our Club’s founding members. Trail Rides are scheduled throughout the year and include day and over-night trips. For the past several years, the Bit & Spur Riding Club has coordinated Summer team penning activities, twice a week, open to all riders of all ages and abilities. Click on the Team Penning page for more information.

Our Junior Riding Club offers many fun riding opportunities such as the Junior Jackpot Show, the Rodeo Princess Contest, 4th of July Parade, and the District Show for youth ages 6 – 15. Practices begin the first week of April. With over 40 Junior Club riders competing at the District Show, the Bit & Spur Club is well represented and our youth riders receive trophies and ribbons.
